Our team was in GA at a local indoor community outreach event.  While we were outside, we spotted a young boy no older than two years of age wondering on the side walk alone.  We asked the boy where his mama was.  He did not respond so we proceeded to ask a woman near by if the child was hers and she looked as if we were nuts and shook her head "no."  Just as I turned around from asking, the boy walked into on coming traffic.  We ran after him and pulled him from the road.  We told the security team for the event, who was standing near by, to take the boy inside and find his mother.  The security team said they assumed the child was with us.  We then asked one of the event organizers to take the boy inside and find the mother and make sure the child didn't leave their care.  WHERE was this mother?  AMERICA... DO SOMETHING!

Our team was returning from NC, where we visited universities for potential speaking engagements.  We stopped off at a local Shoney's to have lunch.  While eating, we observed a family eating at a table beside us.  Seated were four children and two adults.  The children were unkempt and did not look clean, this was the first thing we noticed.  We soon noticed the mother's aggression towards the children as she tried to silence them.  After a few minutes, she reached over to the man beside her and removed the belt from his waist, wrapped it tightly around her hand and whipped the trailing end of it across the table at the little boy who appeared to be no more than five years of age.  The boy proceeded to cry when the belt stuck him across the arm.  The woman then wore the belt around her neck until it was time for her to get her lunch.  When she went to get her plate, she place the belt around the man's neck and while she was away, the man then proceeded to use the belt to hit the child closest to him.  WE ARE STOP~WATCH & Respond.  On this day, we applied our mission and called 911 immediately to intervene on behalf of those children.  The eldest daughter was so down trodden she did not even bother to look up during the meal and was not at all moved by the actions taken against her siblings.  We commend the NC police department for taking immediate action!  The man was angry and ranted in the restaurant about how people need to worry about how to raise they own d*mn kids and mind 'dey own d*mn business.  Shouting that he would discipline his kids the way he wanted to and that who ever called the police should mind their own business.  Strange thing is, he couldn't see the eyes of his children while he was making this scene.  I think that day, his children knew what their parents were doing had to be wrong.  It is our hope, that the parents realize that they can not beat their children and certainly not in public because people are watching and people are responding.  So that if the safest place for those children is in public, then we have made a difference.  August 3, 2007 we changed the lives of four children.
