See pictures from our July Launching below...

  • 60 million reported adults today survived child abuse (1 in 3 adults)

  • Nationally at least 180 reported child fatalities/mo. and 2,160 fatalities in a year resulting from childhood abuse and Neglect.

  • If the average life span of an American is 75 years, in that time, 162,000 Children will have died from Child Abuse and Neglect.

  • Today, in your state, at least 5 children are at critical risk of dying from Child Abuse and Neglect THIS MONTH.

What about the unreported cases?  They are people too.  People you live, work, drive, school and church beside.  You can never tell just looking at a person can you?  "We all have a story."  The problem is... we shouldn't all have these kinds of stories.  You can't find anyone who hasn't had cancer touch their lives in some way or another, friend, family, associate and neither can you find anyone who hasn't been touched by traumatic abuse.  Isn't it about time we change the story?

Next Vigil: March 26, 2008

SWR Vigil Candle $3 available now.  Click Here

We are asking that the nation participate in a monthly candle light vigil. In 2010, our team of volunteers will carve out a "Dear America" letter in the sand on the beach of Coney Island.  Until then, we will light up once a month in our communities starting July 2007 Thur to July 2010. The actual vigil hour is from 9pm-10pm Eastern Standard Time. The letter will be visible from airlines flying overhead. At the same time as we gather on the beach shore in silence, we hope campus crusaders, child advocate groups, local communities and national businesses will vigil from where they are until this nation is moved into greater awareness and aggressive action on this matter.

Join us as we remember the children who's lives have been snuffed out by child abuse.  We gather in memory of Heather Smith and all the little ones just like her on the shore of Coney Island.  To help carve out the letter in the sand, please show up early.  If you'd like to assist in the "Lights for Life" vigil on Coney Island, please fill out the form below and submit it.  We will send you more details.

What if July 21, 2009... you flew over NY at 9:30pm and a whole beach shore was twinkling like the stars?  What if you could see a message that could change the way you respond in this world?  We are a people with a voice... sharing a message on behalf of those little lights of the world snuffed out early as a result of child abuse circumstances.  It is time to REMEMBER them, honor them buy putting an end to the silence and neglect of America's dirty little secret... child maltreatment.  We are bringing a greater awareness to the issue and asking that America ban together in a massive effort to take accountability, make it your business to get involved when you witness abuse.  Don't let a child walk away when you see abuse... that might be the last time you or anyone else ever sees that child.  We will be there next year to embed a statement in the sand and we will be in remembrance on the beach of Tybee Island GA each month throughout the year... will you light a candle in your front window to tell America you are taking a stand against child abuse and neglect?  You don't have to be at Tybee Island Beach to share the spirit of this campaign.  In fact, we prefer you stay right where you are and represent your zip code, your neighborhood and if for no other reason, your family.   We encourage you to sponsor a light for a life  by clicking the sponsor link above.  Your candle will be mailed to you so that you may participate from your own home.  It only takes a $3 donnation plus shipping and handling to sponsor a light that will represent your participation in the life saving efforts of STOP~WATCH & Respond.

July 14 We arrived to Coney Island Beach from Atlanta GA to kick off the start of the STOP~WATCH & Respond Campaign.  It was a foundational trip!  We'll be back again... July 26th, 2008 to do it all again... bigger and better... every year... "Until America Pays Greater Attention!"

We carve out a letter in the sand:

"Dear America, prevent child abuse, neglect and it's fatalities!  STOP~WATCH & Respond NOW!   Thank you, "The Forget~me~nots"

This letter is carved out in 4 foot lettering and then we set it aglow!  For the kick off of the campaign, we gathered on the shore in front of this Restaurant.

We are seeking twenty volunteers to gather next year to once again carve out the letter for the July 26th 2008 awareness event.  Again we ask that all those who are interested in participating in the monthly vigil, find a CAPA Cell near you and gather at the same time as we gather on the Tybee Island beach in GA, our monthly beach vigil location.

On July 26, 2008 and July 21, 2009 we will gather at 6 pm and when it is dark, light up the "Dear America Letter" and sit in silence on the beach for one hour (9pm-10pm) in memory of the "Forget~me~not" children (those who died while victims of child abuse and neglect).  (6pm-10pm)  If you are attending, please do not bring food there will be a trash collection for bottled water.  Come Rain, come snow, we stand PRESENT AND ACCOUNTED FOR.  Watch for dates changes.

It's all tied together... one mission, one vision, one fever burning forever!  Preventing Traumatic abuse and it's fatalities by all means necessary.  WAKE UP AMERICA!  THE TIME IS NOW!         DO SOMETHING MORE!

REST IN PEACE to All 1,400 American Children who died victims of Abuse and Neglect in the year 2007... we will For-U-Not.
